I unloaded the kiln today after yesterdays 6 1/2 hr firing. That is the fastest that I have fired my kiln for a glaze firing since I built it. I was worried that I might have some issues with such a fast firing but everything came great.

Bisque Firing Kiln – Way To Long

No picture or video today, but I wanted to share my firing. I spent Saturday working on my Farth-in-laws house and came home about 3pm to load the kiln for a bisque firing. As some of you may know and for those ones who do not, I use gas for bique firing as well as my glaze firing. The kiln was loaded and firing by 3:45pm. Here is my schecule for bisque firing.

Candle- Fire just on with port holes open. 1 1/2 hrs
Turn up 1 turn – 2 hrs
Turn up 2 turns – 6 hrs

This normally get me to bisque 08, give or take an hour. Well lets just say last night was not the usual. Sometimes I might need to go 11 hrs but it took me 13 hrs. I think what happen is we had freezing temps and I had to much draft and it stalled at about 1500 degree F. Well what I ended up doing was all but closing the chimney draft and as soon as I did it only took me about 45 minutes to get to temp and get cone 08 down.

Well let just hope that when I get everything glazed and fire it up for glaze firing, I am more prepared. At least the bisque is done and now to get ready for the glaze firing. That is all for now.

Banjo Man Facejug Completed

I have not had much time for pottery today or this week for that matter. Work has been busy and I spent today working on an old house that the floor in several rooms needed replacing due to termites. Go it torn out and a new exyerior door put up. Will get back to work on it tomorrow.

I did manage to get the last video up of the completed Banjo Man Facejug. All I need to do now is wait for it to dry and kiln bound it will be. Check out the video here.

I hope to at least get it and several other pieces bisque fired. Well that is all for now.

Now banjos are not the first thing most people would think about when you mention pottery, But as a facejug artist you get you inspiration from all kinds of place, people, animals and things. Well this jug was inpired by watching Youtube, Youtuber, rpeek is a Santa in disquise playing the banjo among the many other things he shares. Well his banjo playing inpired me to make a facejug playing the banjo. Hope you like it.

Alomg with completing him today I also turned five jugs awaiting to me decorated. But just had to finish Banjo Man first. Well time to get some rest, so until next time,
